The Centre for Climate Change and Food Security (CCCFS) extends its deepest sympathy to the families, colleagues, and the Government of Ghana following the tragic helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, in which eight people lost their lives. This includes:
1.Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence
2.Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology
3.Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chair of the National Democratic Congress
4.Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
5.Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Deputy DirectorGeneral, NADMO
And three Ghana Air Force crew members: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
CCCFS regards this as a national tragedy. These individuals were on a mission to address illegal mining and environmental concerns—issues deeply aligned with our own climate and food security advocacy work.

Why this is a sad moment for CCCFS

1.CCCFS has long been a vocal advocate against illegal mining (galamsey) and environmental degradation. The ministers who died were on an official visit that echoed our own efforts to raise awareness and demand accountability.
2.Losing both the Defence Minister and the Environment Minister in a single event is a huge setback for governance, environmental sustainability, and national security.

3.The crash claimed the lives of senior public servants and service personnel who served the nation with courage. CCCFS mourns alongside the nation and the families.
4.This tragedy highlights the risks faced by government officials actively engaging on environmental fronts. It strengthens our resolve to continue advocating for safer, more accountable public systems.
Our condolences and solidarity
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families. We express solidarity with the Government of Ghana, and particularly extend comfort to:
1.The immediate families and colleagues of each victim
2.The Ghana Armed Forces and Disaster Relief communities
3.The Citizens of Ghana
We pray that the memory of those who served will never fade and that Ghana finds strength through unity and resilience in this time of grief.
May their souls rest in peace.
Signed
Sulemana Issifu
